"Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to express my astonishment about the fact that, before we take a controversial vote on the subject of shale gas this week, I am being made to walk through a large gateway set up by companies from the oil and gas industry, and past a stand where MEPs are being offered champagne to encourage them to buy the industry’s superficial arguments.
I think that at a time when there are repeated discussions about the European institutions and lobbyists becoming too close, such exhibitions are inappropriate. I do not know whether I carry sufficient influence to make this happen, but in my view this exhibition should be removed prior to the vote on shale gas."@en1
