"Mr President, we also need to look back to the 2009 initiative that launched the European Network of Female Entrepreneurship Ambassadors, which was modelled on the national networks in Sweden and the United Kingdom. This network is alive and kicking today in 22 countries across the European Union. Furthermore, on 15 November 2011, the Commission launched the European Network of Mentors for Women Entrepreneurs, which is active in 17 countries with around 170 entrepreneurs, and is expanding its activities in order to increase the number of women entrepreneurs. So, within the framework of Commissioner Andor’s strategy, there are also these two concrete initiatives that enable information to be shared in a proper network.
As far as entrepreneurship is concerned, in a few weeks’ time – before the end of this year – we will be launching a Commission initiative under the Cypriot Presidency to encourage entrepreneurship. Its purpose is to get the message across to our young people that they do not necessarily have to go and work for the civil service, the police or the armed forces, but instead they can use their own skills and talents to become entrepreneurs – obviously with help, incentives, venture capital and start-up funding and all kinds of finance – and thus shape their own futures."@en1
