"Mr President, let me take up what the last speaker said, since she is obviously right that, in every area of life, we are faced with a certain conflict between freedom and security. In voting on the report by Ms Costa, whose work in the Committee on Culture and Education I greatly appreciate, we have to make just such a choice between freedom and security, between freedom to search the internet, freedom of movement in the digital world, and the safety of our children. It is not an easy choice. I understand the last speaker, because she is clearly conscious of the danger, but our duty is to warn or protect children in the Member States of the European Union against the threats of which Ms Costa speaks: against sexual abuse, against the loss of self in a virtual world, against addiction to that world. For that reason, I think the report deserves support."@en1
