Today’s resolution on the situation in Belarus after the parliamentary election of 23 September 2012 unfortunately, resembles other EP documents adopted with regard to the political situation in that country. It once again points out that elections there fail to meet basic democratic standards and are unfair, non-free and non-transparent; it urges the Belarusian Government to ensure democratic elections in the future and to respect human rights, and the EU Council and Commission to support initiatives aimed at developing Belarusian civil society. We need to continue to repeat these statements and calls in order to support the efforts of Belarusian democratic political forces and civil society activists, aimed at improving and democratising the lives of Belarusian people. Therefore, today I voted in favour of this joint resolution."@en1
