".
The interdependency of Russia and the European Union in trade matters is becoming increasingly clear. This state of affairs can be beneficial to both parties and provide a way of boosting their respective economies. Russia has had a somewhat mixed record on respecting free trade. With its accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), I want to see its behaviour become more consistent and inspire confidence in its European counterparts, so that the EU feels more inclined to invest in the Russian market and can free itself from unjustified restrictions. A new partnership and cooperation agreement could be a further step towards freeing up both parties’ trade capacities and promoting greater integration between their economies. From a strategic point of view, in light of the emergence of new economic powers, both the Union and Russia have much to gain from this partnership."@en1
