".
The economic, social, financial and sovereign debt crises have still not been overcome. The current economic situation proves that more solid coordination is necessary between the macroeconomic and budgetary policies of Member States, in order to ensure a more integrated and balanced economic union. The European Semester is therefore the proper framework within which to ensure effective economic governance of the euro area by Member States linked by common responsibility, which includes the multilateral surveillance of budgetary and macroeconomic policies and the implementation of the European Strategy for Growth and Jobs, as established in the Europe 2020 strategy. We must therefore take this opportunity to join forces to pull the European Union out of this crisis, which has already been too painful for too long."@en1
