".
I supported in plenary the report by Jean-Paul Gauzès. This report on the European Semester for economic policy coordination and the implementation of 2012 priorities was adopted by 430 votes to 90, with 8 abstentions, and that is to be welcomed. Although the European Semester is one of the cornerstones of the economic and governance measures, my colleagues and I call on the Commission to give the process greater democratic legitimacy. We regret that the European Parliament was left on the sidelines when the main economic decisions were adopted to cope with the crisis. The key sectoral contributions for the 2012 European Semester are and have been: employment and social policies, budgetary policies, the internal market and gender equality."@en1
