"Mr President, once again I was happy to give my support to this report and to vote for it. In particular, I congratulate Jean-Paul Gauzès and others on their excellent work. It is very important.
It demonstrates that we are – gradually – establishing rules not only to emerge from the economic recession but to ensure that we will not make the same mistakes ever again. The European Semester is one example of this work; I welcome it and I believe that it will do a great deal of good in the future.
The report also refers to the Irish referendum on the Fiscal Treaty and praises it. It was quite an achievement to get 60 % of the people to vote for it in the referendum if we consider the difficulties that Ireland is experiencing at the moment. Therefore, it is evident that we are making progress bit by bit and the European Semester is helping us in that regard."@en1
