"Mr President, it is obvious that the majority of Members are satisfied with the work of the Ombudsman as only 10 people voted against the report this morning.
We had a debate on this yesterday and it was obvious then, too, that most of the Members were satisfied with the Ombudsman. He explained his job and the work that he does. That is very important for our citizens. When they have a complaint to make, it is extremely important for them to be able to voice that complaint to an independent party, and that is undoubtedly the case.
I have one other suggestion, which is that we should have an Ombudsman for multinationals, in particular to investigate the prices they pay to farmers for their products. Farmers clearly have substantial complaints, too, and if we had this type of Ombudsman, it would be better for everyone."@en1
