". Mr President, Cambodia’s land distribution policy is inherently unjust and arbitrary. In the last 10 years, at least 400 000 people have lost or been driven from the land on which they lived. The Prime Minister, Hun Sen, announced this year that he would make changes to this unfair land distribution policy, but there is little confidence that the government will act on this announcement. New abuses have already been reported and the old problematic dispossession cases continue. We urge the Cambodian Government to abolish these unfair land distribution measures and, in particular, to review the granting of land to over 200 companies and to withdraw the concessions where need be. Those who are dispossessed of their land or lose their livelihood and then stand up for their rights find themselves arrested as a result. We call for the immediate release of all land rights activists in Cambodia. Agro-industrial companies who have benefited from this deeply unfair land distribution policy also sell their goods to the EU. The Commission is called upon to investigate all human rights abuses independently and as a matter of urgency and to take appropriate action."@en1
