".
Mr President, this is not a one-off incident or an exceptional case, though it is unusually dramatic and painful. This is something that happens on an everyday basis, and not just in that country, but across the entire region. In the interests of clarity, we unfortunately have to recognise what we are often reluctant to put into words, namely, that a considerable part of that population accepts the Taliban and their practices. That is a real tragedy because it may affect the future of the country and the region.
I would like to urge our non-European partners who are engaged in discreet negotiations with the Taliban to consider whether they are actually doing the right thing in setting aside human rights and only taking hard political interests into account."@en1
