". Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, ‘obscenity’ is the Taliban’s accusation against the 14-year-old Malala, who asked to go to school and for the right to education for girls in Pakistan, and the accusation of obscenity is the excuse to strike Malala down with two shots from a firearm, one to the head and the other to the shoulder. The Taliban’s attack not only has religious or political motivations, but aims to suppress and wipe out fundamental human rights and deny women dignity and the right to education. Such is the culture and lifestyle model the Taliban propose to the Muslim world, with utter contempt for their own lives and the lives of others. We obviously condemn these cowardly and cruel acts, but we would like ‘moderate’ Islam as a whole to raise its voice with us, to condemn these criminals. To remain silent would mean agreeing and conniving, and that is intolerable."@en1
