".
Madam President, I was pleased to be an observer during the elections in Georgia. I would like to thank you for that opportunity and I would stress that, when it elected a new parliament, Georgia successfully passed the democracy test. It demonstrated great confidence in Europe and showed that it has learnt its lessons very well. In particular, I would like to thank the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which did a great job. I believe that these elections took place in a calm and peaceful atmosphere and were well organised. I hope that the new government will continue to cooperate with the European Union and NATO, and that relations between the EU and Georgia remain strong in the future. It is a good example for developing democracies: in Georgia both sides – government and opposition – wanted the elections to be transparent and that produced a good result, but unfortunately this does not happen everywhere."@en1
