"Madam President, Commissioner, I too would like to thank Commissioner Füle on an intellectually convincing speech and the fact that both the Commission and the European Parliament are very much of the same view about what now should be done in relation to Belarus.
It is, of course, a great shame that there is one country in central Europe in which there are no free elections, where torture is practised, where the death penalty is in place and where political opposition is not allowed. As others have said already, it is important for us to continue cooperation with civil society; for example European youth and student organisations could be in closer communication with Belarusian young people and students, and the Member States could have some sway, offer university places to young Belarusians, because that would enable contact to be established with the strong, influential generation of the future."@en1
