The European Union’s development policy and the way in which the Union provides humanitarian or political aid are essential not only to overcome many of the global or regional problems we face, but also as a tool for the organisation of international society on new foundations. At the same time, the European Union must offer states experiencing economic problems the prospect of their own growth and development. An important institutional item on the European Union’s agenda is greater efficiency for these foreign policy tools and mechanisms. In the absence of closer and more coherent coordination between different sectoral policies, we are in danger of losing resources and failing to achieve primary objectives. Boosting institutional cooperation within the European Union is equally important. I support the idea of holding regular meetings, according to a clearly structured formula, which will bring together the representatives of EU Member States and those of the European Parliament to ensure that these initiatives are financed consistently. I voted in favour of this report."@en1
