".
Whilst we celebrate 20 years of the single market, this report criticises the obstacles hindering the ‘smooth functioning’ of the single market, referring to the need to eliminate these obstacles and highlighting the fact that the Member States need to promote, develop and improve the application of legislation on the single market. Moreover, it also advocates the completion of the internal energy market and a competitive digital single market, the liberalisation of public procurement and the rail sector, implementation of the cross-border healthcare directive, and coordinating education systems with the needs of the labour market. For the more economically vulnerable countries, the internal market, that is to say, policies of liberalisation, privatisation and deregulation of the economy, has meant that their productive capacity has been destroyed, their exports have declined, and their imports in sectors like energy and food have risen, leaving them extremely dependent on other countries, as is the case with Portugal. This commemoration is therefore against the interests of the peoples and workers of Europe."@en1
