"Completed in 1992, the single market was born with the objective of strengthening the ties between citizens and Member States, and is characterised as an area without internal borders where people, goods, services and capital can move freely. The single market is essential for achieving the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy and its goals of sustainable, smart and inclusive growth. However, the economic, financial and social crisis that has affected Europe since 2008 has had a strong impact on the single market, causing citizens to take a negative view of it while the European institutions and the Member States have become aware that the single market has not been fully exploited. With the objective of relaunching the single market and increasing citizens’ confidence in this market, I voted in favour of the proposal."@en1
