I voted for this report. Completed in 1992, the single market was born with the objective of strengthening the ties between citizens and Member States, and is characterised as an area without internal borders where people, goods, services and capital can move freely. The single market is an essential element for achieving the objectives of the Europe 2020 strategy and its goals of sustainable, smart and inclusive growth. In this respect, revitalising and strengthening the efficiency of the single market, consisting of over 500 million consumers and economic activities in excess of EUR 11 billion, is essential to enable Europe to achieve economic growth and employment, as well as to win the confidence of its citizens. In the year in which we celebrate its 20th birthday, it is sad to see that there is still a gap between expectations and reality regarding the single market. In other words, European citizens and businesses continue to be obstructed in exercising their rights under the single market."@en1
