". I supported Ms Bauer’s report on consular protection for citizens of the Union abroad. The report was adopted by a large majority of 596 votes in favour. I applaud this. The aim of the report was to facilitate access by EU citizens to their rights; namely, the right to be protected in third countries. The new provisions of this report are particularly important since consular protection is an expression of European solidarity and the identity of the Union in third countries."@en1
