We passed this resolution establishing that EU citizens in difficulties abroad can seek assistance from the consulate or embassy of any EU Member State or where necessary, from the Union delegation, by a very large majority. I congratulate Ms Bauer, who prepared the resolution. I am entirely in agreement with her: this resolution reveals the face of a Europe close to its citizens. The proposal strengthens consular rights, clarifying the circumstances in which a citizen is considered unrepresented and specifying the type of assistance that the Member States should typically provide in case of need."@en1
