"I agree with this proposal. Since 2003, Member States can limit the rights of certain ships to fish in the territorial waters of Member States within a 12-mile zone. This derogation aims to give Member States the opportunity to protect biologically sensitive regions, ensure sustainable fisheries management and protect traditional fishing. The derogation expires on 31 December 2012 and I agree that it should be extended to 31 December 2014 in order to ensure uninterrupted application of this derogation until a new common fisheries policy is established."@en1
