In view of the agreements signed between the European Union and the Republic of Serbia with a view to boosting trade between the two economies and having regard to the amendments arising from implementation of the Treaty of Lisbon, it is necessary to introduce amendments to the agreements signed. The legislative changes introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon are in addition to the changes introduced by ‘Trade Omnibus I’ and the resultant strategic alignment of the Stabilisation and Association Agreements between the EU and various Balkan countries. Therefore, the European Parliament must maintain legislative consistency as regards treatment of the Balkan countries, which include Serbia. In view of the above, I am voting in favour of the report which proposes to bring the agreements signed between the EU and Serbia into line with existing legislation."@en1
