"Madam President, I have only one question; this relates to the argument that I have been aware of since the 1980s, when I worked in a relevant academic institute.
At that time 75 % of GDP growth originated in the application of science and research. Since then, its share in GDP growth has even increased.
Why, then, is the Commission making cuts in the fields of science and research? Why is it doing this when it is in fact the most promising resource for overcoming the crisis? I believe that the Commission’s representatives should answer our questions regarding this matter. Why are we undermining this growth potential for the European Union?"@en1
