I voted in favour of the report because a modification of the rules is welcome in the context of global technological progress. Careful control of the export of products that may be used for purposes other than civilian is needed. The impact on the relevant industries must be noted, however; the global competitiveness of SMEs must not be further endangered.
Romania is very interested in the impact of this modification as it is the biggest global producer of heavy water used in the cooling of CANDU nuclear reactors. In this context, I would not like to see exports of heavy water affected. The implementation of the Commission’s proposals must involve the Parliament as well, and will entail a necessary collaboration with the Member States and the other relevant parties."@en1
