"I voted in favour of the mobilisation of the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to support Peugeot employees. Almost EUR 12 million will be released for the 2 089 workers who were made redundant by Peugeot. These funds will be used to finance active reintegration measures additional to those required by virtue of French law and to help the workers to find new jobs. However, I regret that this support for Peugeot employees is one of the EGF’s last on the basis of the ‘crisis’ criterion and that access to the Fund will be restricted in the future. At a time when the recession and unemployment explosion are hitting European countries, the Council has unfortunately decided that this ‘crisis’ criterion may no longer be invoked to mobilise the EGF."@en1
