"After the vote in May, the European Parliament is for the second time examining the discharges and it has decided to grant discharge to the three agencies found to be at fault in the spring. Today I voted in favour of granting discharge for the budget of the European Environment Agency, as I did for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency. It seems that each of these agencies has fulfilled its commitments and introduced new procedures to increase its independence and prevent conflicts of interest. That is therefore a step in the right direction, even if the question of the agencies’ independence remains, as we see at the moment with EFSA and the GMO issue."@en1
