"Madam President, this could be a welcome initiative in a Europe, in a European Union that is increasingly becoming more a union of governments than a union of citizens, but on one condition: it should not be a formal one, with the emphasis on ceremony, but should try and pull together the energies of all European citizens to achieve a closer community.
There are still questions regarding free movement, the use of languages and the recognition of third-level qualifications, as well as questions regarding elections. We are organising this campaign one year before the elections but an institutional framework is needed for less formal, more efficient dialogue with the European institutions. These questions could help to re-establish the trust of the European citizens in the Union."@en1
