"My colleagues and I approved the multiannual financial framework for the years 2014-2020. This framework, which covers several budget years, establishes a total budget and a maximum ceiling for expenditure in each area. At the June 2012 European summit, the European leaders proposed increasing the funds available for research and competitiveness in order to combat the ongoing crisis. Both of these sectors will help to boost the European economy, which has been severely affected by the crisis. I welcome the massive support for this resolution, which will allow these sectors to develop further. I voted for the resolution because I strongly believe that investment in research and competitiveness will be one of the solutions to the crisis and that funding for these aspects should therefore match the ambitions that the European Union has set out."@en1
