"I voted in support of the European Parliament’s efforts to prevent a reduction in funding for cohesion. The Council’s proposal to cut resources for assistance in this area is unacceptable, since it is precisely in the current economic situation that cohesion needs strengthening. We cannot allow differences in development levels to undermine European cooperation. We cannot support a reduction in funding because maintaining solidarity among the Member States is all the more crucial now, in the midst of one of the most serious crises in the history of the EU."@en1
