"I am very sorry to see that, despite public criticism, the proposed EU budget still also includes a budget line for the House of European History. I fundamentally disagree with this project. It is not the role of the Parliament to set up and run museums. Moreover, given that there is also an inability to agree on a common interpretation of the recent past, it would be better to call this project the House of the Lowest Common Denominator. The EUR 5 million cut in that budget line represents only a fraction of the expected expenditure and in no way lessens the absurdity of this project. It is precisely as a result of such downright waste that citizens are ceasing to see any sense in the European project. And, just by the way, it would very much interest me to know why we no longer hear anything about the House of European History from those who use the need to make savings as an excuse for moving this Parliament entirely to Brussels."@en1
