"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, according to the Hungarian Government, this is about a legal act between two sovereign countries. However, if that is so, why did the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) initiate that the matter be discussed here at the Strasbourg session of Parliament, among urgent humanitarian issues? After all, it was the PPE Group that instigated this initiative, while the Socialists disagreed. Murder, ladies and gentlemen, is murder. A judgment is a judgment. In the case of a transfer between two countries, there is a joint responsibility to ensure this on the basis of mutual guarantees. This is the responsibility we are looking for. International organisations, including the European Parliament, must make serious efforts to strengthen trust in the region and to ensure that the issue is settled as soon as possible.
There is no alternative to a peaceful process of negotiation in the region. I sincerely hope that bilateral relations will be restored to their original state as soon as possible."@en1
