"Mr President, Commissioner, the story of today’s debate has three actors: Azerbaijan, Armenia and Hungary, and it runs along two courses: a legal and a political course. Out of the three actors, the role of Hungary is marginal, as it was merely following the norms of international law. In the light of this, I find the motions for amendment submitted by the left-wing puzzling, as they are heating up a frozen conflict in order to condemn Hungary. One could say that this is a well-known left-wing technique of obfuscation. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, clearly violated the spirit of the rules by immediately granting a pardon to the returned Mr Safarov.
It is not surprising for Armenia to attack Azerbaijan, but the anti-Hungarian outbursts are an indication of a heated state of emotions. The reason why all this is alarming is that the overexcited reaction on the part of Armenia and the questionable step taken by Azerbaijan explicitly endanger the already unstable security of the region."@en1
