"Mr President, we have observed this week a new incident, a new victim in the global inter-ethnic war, with the killing of the US ambassador in Benghazi, an event mentioned at the start of this sitting in our Parliament, which has always supported the fight for fundamental freedoms.
Unfortunately, however, bloody anarchy tends to provoke just as much evil as a repressive dictatorship. This is why I would like to highlight the cause of the inter-ethnic clashes and the excessive intervention by the Burmese forces of law and order. Three men belonging to the Rohingya minority raped and killed a woman belonging to the Buddhist community. This was followed by the death of more than 80 people in fighting in Rakhine State between Buddhists and Muslims.
We call on the Burmese authorities to recognise the Rohingya minority and to make efforts to integrate them and defuse the humanitarian crisis. The balance of establishing democracy and carrying out reforms in Burma is closely linked to the cessation of inter-ethnic hostilities in this country."@en1
