This could contribute to consistency between Member States, compliance with EU legislation and the EU’s energy supply security. With this in mind, the Commission should be kept informed regularly about the ongoing negotiations. I voted for Amendments 4 and 5, which stipulate that a Member State or the Commission may request that the Commission participates as an observer in the negotiations. In the event of participating in negotiations as an observer, the Commission may provide the negotiating Member State with advice on how to avoid incompatibility between the negotiated intergovernmental agreement and EU law."@en1
