"An Atlantic policy is essential so that the different approaches and variations of this geographical region of Europe can help citizens to make better use of the maritime and land resources. Of the European population living on the coast, 60% live on the Atlantic coast, spread throughout subnational bodies with political autonomy. The macro-regional strategy proposed in this report, therefore, is the appropriate instrument to enable the Atlantic area to gain greater access to the outlying policies (for example, through integrated transport policies). Ports such as Vigo, in Galicia, and Brest, in Brittany, were excluded from the trans-European transport network, making it clear that its scope is not the Atlantic. It is necessary to revitalise this Atlantic strategy to create jobs and to repair the economy of the whole European Atlantic coast. I therefore voted in favour and I congratulate the rapporteur."@en1
