"We support this report as it calls for attention to be paid to integrated protection from various kinds of violence against people: domestic violence, discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation, human trafficking, exploitation through prostitution, sexual and psychological harassment, female genital mutilation, and many others. However, we do not agree with a greater transfer of power in this area to the EU, as this is an issue of principle and sovereignty in judicial matters. Portugal already has appropriate legislation in many of the areas mentioned, in particular in relation to the protection of victims of domestic violence, the right of minors to receive a hearing and the protection of minors. The reality that Portugal is facing is, rather, a lack of public investment in the implementation of practical measures to support the victim."@en1
