"− I am voting for this report because it aims to strengthen the rights of victims in the European Union. I consider the proposal to create a common set of rules in relation to victims of crime throughout the Member States to be of the utmost importance and usefulness, as rights such as the right to be heard, the right to information, and the right to understand and to be understood are essential, as is access to aid for the victim, the easier identification of vulnerable victims and protection for victims during questioning processes or criminal prosecution. Such a set of rules should be capable of increasing confidence in the criminal justice system for all of the Member States, while also ensuring greater judicial cooperation in a climate of mutual understanding and the promotion of fundamental European values. For all of these reasons, I support this proposal in favour of the victims of crime, who deserve more aid, assistance and information from the competent authorities."@en1
