lpv:translated text	"Mr President, stories from the lives of our citizens often convince us that, as a result of the different cultural traditions and different historical development of the judicial and security structures in the EU Member States, there are large differences in the exercising of civil rights between the Member States. The same is true in the protection and guaranteeing of the rights of victims of crime. The efforts of the European Commission to establish minimum standards for the rights of crime victims are therefore justified. In addition to recognising the rights of victims to information, interpreting and translation, and to have access to legal protection and victim support services, I think it is very important to assert the right of victims to avoid contact with the perpetrator. However, the recognition of those rights in the legal acts of the EU does not, in itself, automatically change the status of victims in everyday life. All bodies working in law enforcement, police officers, prosecutors and the judicial authorities will have to adopt working methods according to these principles. It is therefore very important to be aware that our work will not end with the adoption of this act."@en1
