"We will never be able to be efficient or have a proper vision of our external action as long as we fail to understand the fact that our values cannot be promoted until we manage to resolve our geostrategic problems. This is not about abandoning our values. It is about creating a framework for them to grow roots and flourish. The primacy we currently give to the values does not reflect our attachment to them, but our incapacity to define the geostrategic interests of the EU. Since we do not know our identity, we do not know our interests and we cannot define our long-term objectives. This is why we prefer to fight an illusory crusade that gives us the false impression of being capable of imposing our model around the world, believing that this solves all of our other problems. Until we change this approach, we cannot have a real common foreign and security policy. What is worse, since our foreign policy is not the goal but rather the means, through its lack we condemn ourselves to irrelevance within the international competition."@en1
