"Madam President, I do not want to ask a question, but to give my account of what happened.
I just want to tell you that Baroness Ashton and her services worked to free the two Swedish journalists, and I was witness to that. I myself went to Ethiopia several weeks ago, at the request of Baroness Ashton and on the basis of the information she provided, to intervene for the release of the two journalists. While I was there, I met with Prime Minister Meles, with the full agreement and full support of Baroness Ashton. I met the prisoners. The Swedish Foreign Minister also made every effort. I want to testify here to Baroness Ashton’s actions to free these prisoners. I believe that if we had not taken these steps, in complete confidentiality, the prisoners might not be free today. I wanted to say this because I know how passionate you are about Ethiopia and I wanted the truth to be heard. Therefore, do not say that Baroness Ashton did not do anything: she did a great deal and we supported her."@en1
