"The Internet has evolved more rapidly than European law. Consequently, we now have to ensure legal certainty in the European digital space and make sure that we prevent situations of unequal treatment between online and offline services. This resolution reaffirms the principle of net neutrality, which allows content to be distributed to all, thereby giving priority to media pluralism and cultural diversity. It also rejects the principle of pan-European licences, which would have paved the way for the monopolisation of the audiovisual market by a number of big players to the detriment of many SMEs, which form the real backbone of the audiovisual and cinematographic industry today. I therefore voted for this resolution, which seeks to ensure universal access to varied Internet content, while protecting the small players in a major European industry. We are calling on the European Commission and the Member States to take this into account when drawing up future European legislation."@en1
