"I supported this report and welcome the rapporteur’s statement that ‘There should be further research into the idea of student grants at the pre-university stage of education. For many students across Europe from poorer backgrounds, education becomes unaffordable for their family way before they get to university age. They feel pressurised by their financial situation into leaving school early and getting a job. Financial constraints make re-entering education and the secondary school level difficult as well. There have been schemes in many countries that sought to offer financial support directly to students from poorer backgrounds so that they can stay in school. It would be useful to do a study on the effectiveness of such schemes’."@en1
