"The principle of altruism and the associated principle of voluntary and unpaid donation fundamentally prevent any form of commercialisation of organs or other body parts, and thus the risk of illicit trade in them. The principle of non-commercialisation of the human body and its parts as such is also contained in the Charter of Fundamental Rights, as it ensures the highest possible protection of living donors. I therefore welcome the submitted report, which analyses the current situation in tissue and cell donation, and I believe that, together with the directive on the quality and safety of organs intended for transplanting, it will help to improve the whole mechanism for the functioning of donation and to better cooperation at European level."@en1
