"I felt it was important to vote in favour of this resolution, which reaffirms certain principles regarding the donation of tissues and cells. It is an ethical requirement. However, several Member States do not take it into consideration: donations of tissue and cells should be voluntary, unpaid and, without any exception, anonymous. These ethical failures in certain Member States are set in an environment of regular revelations of cases of trafficking in human products. The main reason for my vote is to send a message to the Member States that they must put a stop to this trafficking. The scope of this resolution goes beyond ethical questions and addresses the issues of public health and the fight against criminal activities. Moreover, this resolution encourages the creation of systems allowing for greater European and international cooperation, aimed at improving the management of the growing need for human tissues and cells for innovative treatments, a need that, in itself, constitutes a major challenge for public health."@en1
