lpv:translated text	"I voted in favour of the establishment of the European standardisation system. Standardisation is particularly important for building a common internal market, ensuring the business competitiveness of both the EU and individual Member States, removing trade obstacles and ensuring appropriate health protection and market access for safe products. We need to remove existing deficiencies which currently prevent us from ensuring product safety and which create different levels of consumer protection in different Member States. The laying down of uniform standards at European level is especially important in the field of rapidly developing technologies and innovations. I welcome the proposals to encourage the involvement of SMEs and Member States’ public authorities in the standards development process. Standards need to be comprehensible and easy to use. I agree that standards need to be harmonised in the services sector, where there is a lack of standards."@en1
