lpv:translated text	"The delay which occurred in withdrawing the medicine Mediator from the French market, in spite of the problems reported for almost 10 years, has highlighted irresponsible marketing practices and repeated mistakes which have had tragic repercussions. It is deplorable that such a tragedy had to occur, which has affected the lives of thousands of people, to make those involved withdraw the medicine from the market and initiate the legal reforms required to guarantee the system’s safety. I would like to thank the rapporteur and the other political groups who responded quickly and readily to dialogue in order to plug the gaps in the previous legislation. The credit for the Council accepting Parliament’s position goes to our negotiating team. Our monitoring system will be tighter and more transparent, and will provide a more effective way of protecting European citizens’ health."@en1
