"I supported the resolution on EU policy on the West Bank and East Jerusalem as the Middle East peace process requires our urgent attention. The possibility of a two-state solution continues to be debilitated by both the closure of many Palestinian institutions and the evictions and housing demolitions of many Palestinians living in East Jerusalem. The Palestinian presence in both the West Bank and East Jerusalem continues to be undermined by Israeli Government policies, which impact heavily on the peace process. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be resolved through peaceful and non-violent means and any act of violence impeding this must be condemned. All Member States need to play a more active, political role in the achieving of a peaceful and long lasting solution that will resolve the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. We must lift the blockade of the Gaza Strip, so that persons and crucial humanitarian aid may pass with greater ease and we must also implement an efficient control mechanism to prevent the smuggling of arms into Gaza. Therefore, I welcome the resolution on EU policy on the West Bank and East Jerusalem."@en1
