lpv:translated text	"Mr President, like many of my fellow Members, I, too, feel disheartened that the text from Rio does not contain more concrete commitments. We are well aware that we are already living beyond our means. If everyone in the world lived like a Swede, for example, we would consume our planet 3.25 times over. This realisation was clearly not enough, but we must use our resources more efficiently. In the past, growth has largely occurred as a result of us having had cheap raw materials and cheap energy, but it will not be possible for that to continue. It is therefore important for us to show that we can break the link between a better standard of living and increased destruction of the environment. It is possible to do this even now. We know, for example, that it pays to be more energy efficient, and I believe that it is time for us to show that this is possible. It is possible to have a good life and, at the same time, live in a sustainable way. That is how we can encourage others to follow us on the international stage – not with threats or scaremongering, but by showing that it is genuinely possible and does not need to entail massive social problems. On the contrary, this is the solution to many social problems."@en1
