Despite the fact that unfortunately it does not call clearly for a reduction in transport time, it does limit the duration of transport of live animals to eight hours as requested in a recent petition on this matter. Similarly, the text calls for the inclusion of animal welfare standards in trade agreements signed by the EU. Although this resolution is not perfect, it is a first encouraging sign which, I hope, will lead to a genuine proposal for a regulation from the Commission."@en1
