In my opinion, the most sensible thing to do in order to resolve the problems with the ACTA in its current form, particularly from the point of view of development policy, would be to postpone the vote. As this was not supported by the majority, I decided to abstain from voting. This is intended, on the one hand, to make it clear that I support the legitimate goals of the agreement and, on the other, to take account of the concerns that exist, for example with regard to simplified seizure procedures for generic medicines at border controls, which have not been dispelled by the Commission’s informal promises. Involvement of the developing countries in the negotiation process would also have been desirable."@en1
